Why are Flip Top Tables so popular?

19 Mar 2024

Flip Top tables have become increasingly popular in recent times, due to their flexibility and cost effectiveness. Flip Top Tables come in a range of shapes and sizes, so can be combined to form a wide range of Desk and Table configurations. They are also mobile (with braking castors) so can be moved from room to room (and secured) when required, and last but not least the Table Top flips from horizontal to vertical so the Tables can be rolled together and 'nested' to significantly reduce the space taken. Given the wide range of 'desking' and 'table' solutions that Flip Tables offer they represent a very efficient and cost effective solution

Why are Flip Top Tables so popular?

Flip Top Tables are available in a range of colours and sizes - and with rectangular, 'D' end, semi-circle and Trapezium shaped Tables they can be used singularly or joined together to form different shaped Table formats. One of the most common questions asked about Flip Top Tables is how they differ from folding tables. For Flip Top Tables, the Table Top flips from horizontal to vertical and for Folding Tables they require the legs at either end of the table to fold inwards.

Given how versatile Flip Top Tables are, it is important prior to completing your purchase that you consider carefully all of the possible applicatiions the Table/s will be used for - i.e. staff work stations, meeting or boardroom tables, staff break-out areas or for presentations/training purposes. This will provide you with the size and shape of tables you need to purchase.

Size and shape of the Table Top

The most important thing about your Flip Top Table will be the size and shape of the Table Top. This is especially important if you intend to use the Tables in conjunction with each other to create larger table layouts. For example, rectangular Flip Top Tables can be used singularly as Desks or can be pushed up against each other to create a considerably larger Meeting Table space. All Flip Top Tables can have Connectors fitted to the underside of the Tables to hold them level and together.

Flip top Tables also come with 'D' end or semi-circle Tops which are ideal for hospitality settings to create segregated dining tables and these shapes also make a nice finish to a Boardroom Table setup. More recently Flip Top Bar Leaners have become available and these have been extremely popular for use as casual staff break-out areas, where at the end of the 'session, the Tops are flipped and the Tables wheeled away for storage.

And the latest developement in Flip Top Tables is the Flip Top Chamber Tables with Modesty Panels which provide Councils and other formal meeting forums with the perfect flexible, movable Chamber Table. Regardless of the specific application you require, it is important to remember that the size of your Flip Top Tables will determine the total capacity of your space. For example, if you run an Events Centre, choosing the right size Flip Top Tables will determine your Centre's capacity and its profitability.

Nesting

The Flip Top Table's 'nesting' feature provides an amazing space saving efficiency - and when not in use the Flip Top Tables can be wheeled away, 'nested' and the free'd up space used for something else. To maximise the efficiency of Flip Top Tables it is worth checking the degree to which the Flip Tables 'nest' together. Some Flip Tables have slimmer designs than others and therefor nest in a far more compact fashion.

Mobility

Another key feature of our Flip Top Tables is that they are all fitted with quality braking castors making them easy to move around on all types of surfaces. The castors are free-rolling wheels that can pivot through 360º allowing the Tables to be moved easily and the foot operated castor brakes enable castors to be ‘locked’ in place to prevent the Table moving when in use. The mobility of Flip Top Tables is also made easier by them not having overly heavy components.

Ease of 'Flipping'

The 'Flipping' Bar or Lever is a part of the Table  that will get plent of use, so it is important that the mechanism is robust and well-designed - and that the Flip Top Table is backed by a good warranty. The warranty on most Office Products Online Flip Top Tables is 15 years which confirms the quality of the Tables and more particularly, the quality of their 'Flipping' mechanisms.

Connectors

Designed to be fitted to each end of the Flip Top Table and when linked together with another Table will keep the tops level and the Table configuration together. Connectors are supplied in pairs and are optional.

Modesty panels

Depending on how you intend configuring your Flip Top Tables, you may choose to add Modesty Panels to your Table/s. These Modesty Panels are generally powder-coated steel panels that match the colour of the frame and are connected to conceal the legs of the user sitting at the Table. The Modesty Panel is fitted in a way that does not effect the 'Flipping' operation of the Table. Normally, Modesty Panels are added to Tables that  face outward e.g. a reception desk that faces an entrance, or a Table that faces an open-plan space, or large open 'U' formations for meetings. Some Modesty Panels can have Cable Trays added, to manage power and data cables for laptops or other devices.

Colours

Obviously, you will want the colour of your Flip Top Tables to match or compliment your current decor, The Flip Top Frames are generally available in Silver, White or Black (with any Modesty Panels required, matching those colours). The tops are 25mm Melteca or Melamine and are available in a wide range of colour choices - with Colour Charts available on inquiry.
